Makoto Abe, AIA – Senior Associate

Makoto Abe is a Senior Associate at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW) and has diverse experience in all phases of project development for a variety of institutional, commercial, and residential projects. Recent work at AW includes serving as Project Architect for several award-winning private residences in New England, and as Staff Architect for the American Indian Center at the University of Minnesota—Duluth and the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology & the Ancient World at Brown University. Additional building type experience includes dormitories, offices, recreational facilities, campus planning, and university master plans.

Makoto has been a visiting critic at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, and the Boston Architectural College.  He has an M.Arch. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a B.A. from Keio University in Japan.

Alex Anmahian, AIA – Co-founder / Principal

Alex Anmahian, AIA, is co-founder of Anmahian Winton Architects (AW). Since it was formed in 1992, AW has completed a broad range of notable institutional, commercial, and residential projects in the US and abroad. Alex and co-founder Nick Winton direct the design of all projects at AW, including buildings, industrial objects, and furniture. The firm’s work has been published widely and has been awarded the highest honors within the design industry.

In addition to AW’s practice, Alex teaches, lectures, and serves as visiting critic at leading design schools, both nationally and internationally. He has served on the Board of ArchitectureBoston magazine, on the Board of Directors of the Boston Architectural College, and on the Board of Directors of the Boston Society of Architects, including as its Commissioner of Design.

Alex received an M.Arch. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Florida.

Emily Bell – Designer

Emily Bell is a Designer at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW), with experience in complex urban planning projects that require collaboration with multiple public entities.

Emily has led fundraising for the implementation of in-studio building projects, and has carried that work through all stages of project development. She received her M.Arch. from Yale University and her B.A. from Colgate University.

Helena Briones – Designer

Helena Briones is a Designer at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW), with experience in cultural, education, housing and infrastructure projects, and has participated in focused workshops on model making, product design and food and technology. She has brought her particular interests in food and gastronomy to MIT’s Eastgate graduate agriculture committee.

Helena is a licensed architect in Europe. She studied at Università della Svizzera Italiana in Mendrisio, Switzerland and has an M.Sc. summa cum laude from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

Aaron Bruckerhoff, AIA, LEED AP BD+C – Principal

Aaron Bruckerhoff is a Principal at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW). His diverse experience in all phases of project development includes designs of varying complexity and size for institutional, commercial, and residential projects. Recent work at AW includes serving as Project Manager for the Ankara Office Tower, the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology & The Ancient World at Brown University, and the American Indian Learning Resource Center at University of Minnesota—Duluth. Additional building type experience includes libraries, performing arts centers, historic renovations, senior care centers, residences, and university master plans.

Aaron is a registered architect in Massachusetts and a LEED Accredited Professional. He has a B.F.A. and B.Arch. from the Rhode Island School of Design.

John Deitering – Marketing / Office Manager

John Deitering is the marketing and office manager at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW).  He directs the office’s digital communications strategy and develops graphic materials to represent AW, working with both professional consultants and service providers.

John has a B.F.A. from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and has experience in a variety of graphic design fields.

Ann Foote

Anika Gramsey – Senior Designer

Anika Gramsey is a Senior Designer at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW). Recent work with the firm includes an astronomical observatory in New Hampshire, a residence in Cambridge, Deans Offices at Harvard University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Ankara Office Tower. Other building type experience includes retail, and recreational facilities, and institutional master plans.

Anika has served as an advisor at The Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in New York, has won community service grants from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and AmeriCorps, and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Anika has an M.Arch. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude.

Ana Hiller – Designer

Ana Hiller is a Designer at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW), with experience in civic and residential projects, as well as in both academic and practical research. She has been a teaching assistant for both undergraduate and graduate students at MIT and has immersed herself in all aspects of the craft of architecture, from traditional furniture making to digital fabrication.

Ana has an M.Arch. from MIT and a B.Design summa cum laude from the University of Florida.

Maria Perez Benavides – Intern

Maria is a candidate for the B.S. in Architecture at Northeastern University, with professional experience in urban design projects and product development. She has volunteered on community-based projects that focus on low income housing and medical services.

Maria has received recognition at Northeastern for her design work, academic performance, and leadership/mentorship efforts.

Sarah Radding, AIA – Senior Associate

Sarah Radding is a Senior Associate at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW). She has worked in all phases of project development across a broad range of scales for institutional, commercial, and residential clients. Her building type experience includes museums, academic buildings, and adaptive re-use projects for historic buildings.

Sarah serves on the City of Somerville’s Design Review Committee and is a registered architect in Massachusetts. She received an M.Arch. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, and a B.Sc. in Architecture from the University of Michigan.

Mazen Sakr – Senior Associate

Mazen Sakr is a Senior Associate at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW). Recent experience at AW includes an astronomical observatory in New Hampshire, the Ankara Office Tower, and an Urban Plan for Winchester, MA. Other building type experience includes university buildings, commercial buildings, and recreational facilities.

Mazen is a recipient of the Alpha Rho Chi Bronze Medal and has been a visiting critic at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Northeastern University, Kent State University, and the Boston Architectural College. He founded The Lebanon Architect, an online journal exploring architecture and related design disciplines in Lebanon. He speaks Arabic, Lebanese, English, and French. Mazen has an M.Arch. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a B.S. summa cum laude from Kent State University.

Emily Whitbeck – Intern

Emily is an M. Arch. candidate in MIT’s School of Architecture + Planning. She has been a teaching assistant in undergraduate architecture studios, and has leadership experience with programs that connect individual students as well as student teams to community design opportunities.

Emily received a B. Design in Architecture summa cum laude from the University of Florida

Nick Winton, AIA – Co-founder / Principal

Nick Winton, AIA, is co-founder of Anmahian Winton Architects (AW). Since it was formed in 1992, AW has completed a broad range of notable institutional, commercial, and residential projects in the US and abroad. Nick and co-founder Alex Anmahian direct the design of all projects at AW, including buildings, industrial objects, and furniture. The firm’s work has been published widely and has been awarded the highest honors within the design industry.

In addition to AW’s practice, Nick teaches and lectures at leading design schools across the country. He is a former Architect in Residence at the Addison Gallery of America Art at Phillips Academy, Andover and is currently a Trustee of the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston and a member of the Harvard GSD Alumni Council.

Nick received an M.Arch. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a B.A. from Brown University.

Elizabeth Zachos – Principal

Elizabeth Zachos is a Principal at Anmahian Winton Architects (AW), where she manages client development and marketing strategy. She has a broad range of experience in all phases of project development, as well as in business strategy, marketing, and community outreach. Past experience includes academic projects for higher education, independent schools, and elementary education; recreational facilities; museums; public projects at the state and municipal levels; and university master plans.

Elizabeth chairs the Board of Directors for Brookline High School’s 21st Century Fund, has served as co-chair for Horizons for Homeless Children’s Women’s Breakfast, and founded and co-chairs the Edward Devotion School’s Literacy Alliance.

Elizabeth received an M.Arch. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and an A.B. from Harvard College magna cum laude.
